A wafer carrier manufacturer wanted to shift production into the Singapore–Batam corridor — not only to reduce costs, but to supply Singapore customers locally. Local sourcing had become a strategic requirement from their buyers.
The production environment: ISO 14644 cleanroom, 80 employees at the Batam site, revenue volume €20m. The problem: no existing quality system, no established compliance framework, and a tight deadline for the first customer release.
Full assessment of the current state: cleanroom infrastructure, process steps, qualification level of the workforce, customer requirements. Output: consolidated master concept with prioritisation by customer risk.
Structured training programme for 80 employees: cleanroom behaviour, quality documentation, SEMI standards, defect classification. Training materials in English and Bahasa Indonesia — practical, without excess paperwork.
Steering of IQ/OQ/PQ phases. Direct support during customer audits. Coordination of all open items between local team, production and customer side. Escalations addressed early — no surprises in the audit.
Stable series production achieved, customer release granted, handover to local management. 0 critical findings in the final audit.

Batam is 45 minutes by ferry from Singapore. Labour costs 50% below DACH levels, first-class free trade zone, direct access to Singapore customers. For semiconductor suppliers with a Singapore customer base, Batam is the logical production location.
Gregor Specht has worked in this corridor for years — with a local network, intercultural experience and the technical background for cleanroom and semiconductor production.
